<image:caption>This window was commissioned by a catholic school in North London, to go into their new chapel. There was a very short timescale as the window had to be installed ready for the visit of Cardinal Vincent Nichols, at which he opened and blessed the new chapel and school library.

I worked on this commission with Marilyn Andreetti, who did all the paintwork on the glass. The school asked for local landmarks to be incorporated into the window, as well as the London skyline, which I sandblasted onto purple/clear flashed glass.

The circular pieces of glass in this panel are made using a very special and expensive glass called ‘flashed’ glass - which is clear glass with a thin ‘flash’ of another colour fused on top. I applied an adhesive resist to each piece of glass before handcutting each circle, and then sandblasted away some of the top flashed layer of glass to expose the clear glass below. The glass was then fired in the kiln to make the sandblasted areas shiny again.

The panel is copper foiled with a leaded frame.

<image:caption>As part of the renovation of her house in Boston, USA, the client installed a new kitchen and asked me to design the glass to go into the kitchen cabinets. As the worktops were to be dark grey granite and the wall tiles a grey-green glass, I chose a pale grey glass with a hammered finish for the cabinets.

I deeply sandblasted a simple squares design onto the glass. Each piece of glass was sandblasted with a slightly different design to give variety and interest. The glass looks quite different, depending on whether the backlighting is switched on or off.</image:caption>

They are richly decorated with sandblasting, kiln-fired paint, plating, gilding, bevels and false leading. During the day, the panels bring coloured light into the hall and at night, when the interior light is on in the hall, the panels present a glowing, graphic display to passers-by.

The client asked for "Christmas colours", hence the red and green glass with gilded areas of 24 carat gold. The door also features sandblasted flashed glass, gilding, plating and false leading.

<image:caption>The client asked me to design a "quietly complicated mirror" to complement the colours of a particular room. Flashed and handmade glass is used. Although some of the glass is decorated with sandblasting, painting and gilding, much of the effect comes from the use of textured glass.

The glass is decorated with sandblasting, paintwork, bevels and gilding. I made two panels to fit into the existing window and the design flows from the top panel into the one below.
