Corona (Chaos)
This is one of a pair of panels inspired by the images we see everywhere of the coronavirus and represents the chaos the world appeared to be in during much of 2020. It is a companion piece to the Corona (Order) panel.
The circular pieces of glass in this panel were made using a very special and expensive glass called ‘flashed’ glass - which is clear glass with a thin ‘flash’ of another colour fused on top. I applied an adhesive resist to each piece of glass before handcutting each circle, and then sandblasted away some of the top flashed layer of glass to expose the clear glass below. The glass was then fired in the kiln to make the sandblasted areas shiny again.
The panel is copper foiled with a leaded frame.
This panel won the Selected Work Medal in the 2021 Sixth Craft Glass Creation & Design International Competition.
